"I didn't know what to expect. They tell you to think of a place. I thought about my childhood home — a summer morning when I was maybe eight or nine. I don't even know why that one. It just came.
And then I was there. The couch. The lamp on the side table — I turned it on and the light came on. I could smell bacon from the kitchen. I walked in and there it was, done exactly the way I liked it. I could hear my family in the other room. When I sat down at the table, I felt the weight of the chair, the coolness of the glass of orange juice, the grain of the wood under my fingers.
I knew it wasn't real. I knew I was lying in a tube somewhere in Rubic City. But it didn't matter. The experience was so real, my brain wanted to believe it actually was. Or at least my heart did.
My session was eleven minutes. It felt like a full morning.
When it ended — when the room went dark and I was lying in silence again — I was filled with all sorts of emotions. LifeLight had just given me the most incredible gift I could imagine, only to take it right back. I lay there for a few minutes before the disk opened.
The first thing I said was: 'Give me twenty more minutes.'

"People say I lost myself. I disagree. I found exactly what I was looking for. Before LifeLight, I was spending all my time in simulations that couldn't give me what I actually wanted.
